ABOUT US
Hi my name is Andrea! I created Mahika Market, formally Mahika Paper, originally wanting to build my own journal company. I've always had a love for writing and documenting life's small moments. Mahika Paper grew into more than just stationary in our first year of business and our Everyday Cloud Tote Bags were receiving so much positive attention so I knew I had to pivot. I grew up in Cape May County, New Jersey where I take much of my inspiration now from the warm summers living by the beach and my Filipino background. I was always a creative spirit and have had many phases of wanting to pursue careers from fashion design to being a published author and everything in between. Dipping my toes into entrepreneurship has allowed me to learn so much and I can't wait to share more of my journey with you!
I currently reside in Philadelphia which has influenced my business choices for wanting to produce sustainable products and prioritize plastic-free packaging as waste has always been a major issue in the city. This also extends to my love for travel, having been to 14 countries and counting, and recognizing that the amount of waste produced by many large companies and businesses overall negatively impact and expedite the Earth's environmental crisis.
The name Mahika Market comes from an aspiration to root the business in culture and community and references my Filipino background. Mahika, meaning "magic" in Tagalog (the national language of the Philippines), enforces the idea that you are magic. Here at Mahika Market, we want to remind everyone to tap into their magic - create, inspire, be authentically you!
